Great, Unconventional Date Ideas

Sunday August 10, 2008 at 07:25PM

It is not as difficult to come up with a creative dating idea as you might think. As long as your date is open to new ideas and doesn't mind doing something unconventional, you can come up with all sorts of great things to do. Before you start to worry, a creative date doesn't have to be an expensive date either. There is no need to spend a lot on fancy dinners or trendy clubs that are all hype and no lasting substance. Provided your date is willing to play along, all it takes is some imagination and a bit of thinking outside the box. Your dating ideas can be crazy and complex, or simple and romantic. Many times it is even possible to come up with ideas that are a bit of both.

One great idea is to do something for charity together. You don't have to go out on your date to a homeless shelter and help out. Instead, you can work together to prepare food to donate or even have some fun and hold a contest with some other couples to raise the most money. Use your imagination! This sort of activity not only builds the relationship between you and your partner, but helps the community! What better way to show your compassionate side to your date?

You can also try to build something together that you both enjoy. Get together on a lazy Saturday afternoon, and put together a model if that is what you enjoy. Work on getting a tropical aquarium up and running, or even just go out and work on her fence or his garden! Not only is this unconventional, it  has the added benefit of seeing how your date handles hard work and stress! This can clue you into potential relationship problems or reassure you regarding their true personality early in the relationship.

Another more traditional, yet still unconventional dating idea is to go star-gazing. Pick up a book or two on astronomy and go somewhere pleasant and cuddle together watching the stars. Try to pick out your favorite constellations as they move gently across the sky, and you sit gently in each others arms. Be sure to find somewhere quiet and comfortable to gaze from. There is nothing so uncomfortable as a rock in your back or anything quite so distracting as a busy highway nearby when you and your date are trying to find a quiet time together.

For the more travel-minded date, try this out. Get together with you and your partner and create a list of nearby places you have never visited. Museums, national or state parks, scenic attractions, or even just great stores or restaurants all work. Pick things within an easy two hour drive that are affordable or free. Then put each place on a different, small piece of paper and randomly draw a location when you feel like doing something together. Hop in the car and explore something new together as your next date. Be sure to remove places as you draw them and add new places when you hear about them to keep the destinations fresh.

These are just a few of the great date ideas that are out there. Use your imagination, talk to your date, and ask friends or family for even more dating ideas or tips.
